Timbuk2 laptop bag

Whenever I come across a product or service which I think is great, I like to tell everyone about it. Well, I don't actually go telling everyone about it, but if it comes up in conversation I may evangilize it. Now that I started this blog, I have the opportunity to share some of the things I've come to like. For starters...

Timbuk2 messenger bag
I had been carrying my 17 inch-wide Dell notebook in a computer bag I had gotten free years ago. I liked the bag. It was rugged and had many pockets and compartments. However, the bag was designed for smaller notebooks. A few inches of my notebook would stick out of the padded compartment. Eventually, the top of my notebook got some deep scratches on the area that stuck out. This made me decide to get a bag in which my notebook would fit properly. After a brief search and looking at various computer bags, I ended up ordering a Timbuk2 Commute XL bag.

I've known about the brand and its quality for years as a couple former co-workers had the regular messenger bags. So I had an idea of what to expect. Timbuk2 doesn't allow one to customize the colors on their laptop bags as with the regular messenger bags. One is limited to either all black (which is what I chose) or black with gray. Anyway, I ordered my bag via Timbuk2's website. The transaction was easy and fast. They're located locally here in the bay area so it took only two days after ordering it to receive it.

Simply put: the bag rocks! The materials and quality are top-notch. My laptop fits just right inside the padded compartment and is well protected. The bag actually has a lot of pockets and compartments located in all the right places. The website doesn't really cover this which I think would be a good selling point. I'm able to carry books, cables, chargers, and I still have plenty of room left. So I'm more than satisfied with the bag.

One thing I wasn't satisfied with was the Strap Pad. It doesn't come with the bag.
Its an optional accessorie you can buy. Its well padded and works great if you carry the bag across the chest - like bike messengers do. However it keeps sliding off when I carry the bag over my shoulder. Since I bought my bag, Timbuk2 has redesigned their website and added more products. One product being a version of the Strap Pad with a rubber coating which prevents the slipping.

the name "wirednerd"

I don't remember how I came up with this online identity. It probably seemed cool at the time. I think I originally meant it to mean that I was wired - as in connected to the internet - and that I was a nerd.

I created it to use on Yahoo! after other id's using a combination of my intials, first name, and last name were unavailable. Even my nickname wasn't available. Actually, I think I had my nickname and probably one combination using my last name as Yahoo! id's soon after it offered free email, but for whatever reason I stopped using them - eventually forgetting the passwords. I wasn't able to get them back and somehow came up with "wirednerd." According to my Yahoo! Profile, I created it on March 7, 1997.

On occassion I'll get asked what I'm "wired" on. I just say I'm wired on coffee or Red Bull. There are few others out there using this name too, but I think I may have been the first to use it.
