Motorola RAZR V3 - update

I've had my Motorola RAZR V3 for several weeks now. Here are some thoughts on it:
  • a lot of times, I find it difficult to flip it open, especially one-handed. This is due to it being thin and wide.
  • because of how thin and light it is, I like how I can easily carry it in my front pants pocket without it being bothersome.
  • I still haven't received the software I bought online that's needed to download photos from the phone to my pc. So I don't know how good the quality of the photos are.
  • the plastic used to make this phone feels and looks cheap. even the "metallic" keypad looks cheap.
  • as cheap as it may look, it seems to be scratch resistant. I've dropped it twice (by accident) on a concrete driveway and there are no scratches on it. My old Motorola T-720 was full of scratches from everytime I dropped it.
  • most times when i talk to my girlfriend, there's a constant background noise which interferes our call. I don't know if its our phones or the Cingular service we both use, but I only experience it when I talk to her. This has been occuring since before I dropped the phone, so I know it isn't because its been dropped.
  • I like how I was able to customize what the buttons are used for

Driving citation

I got a driving citation on November 8 for not making a complete stop at an intersection (which is debatable) and I still haven't received whatever paperwork they send in the mail. I've gotten speeding tickets in the past and received mailed instructions on what to do - pay bill or go to traffic court. On the citation I had to sign, the officer wrote down a traffic court date of January 10. I'm thinking of showing up to traffic court on that date and let's see what happens.

Christmas music

For whatever reason, this year I'm enjoying Christmas music more so than years past. KOIT, a local radio station, plays only Christmas music 24/7 during the month of December up until Christmas day - so I get to listen to as much as I want. They've been doing this for a few years. They play different versions of all the classics and new music too. They also stream over the internet, making it easy for me to listen to it while I work.

The Fab Four
A co-worker introduced me to a Christmas cd by this group called the The Fab Four. They play classic Christmas songs to the rythm of Beatles songs. They've done a great job and it sounds really cool. The cd is available at Amazon.com.

New Mobile Phone - RAZR V3

I finally replaced my Motorola T-720 cell phone which I've been using since December of 2002, with a black Motorola RAZR V3. I only upgraded because I switched from Verizon to Cingular and my T-720 doesn't work with Cingular's network.

I've had it for a week so far, and I really like it. It has all the cool features expected in new phones nowadays such as a camera (photos and video), speaker phone, and internet access. However, I didn't get the additional MEdia bundle from Cingular which gives one access to the internet, email, multimedia messaging, instant messaging, and other features. I didn't think I would need it so I didn't order it. Once I started using the camera I realized I wasn't able to download the photos from the phone. In order to download the photos, I need to either subscribe to Cingular's MEdia bundle so that I can email the photos to myself or buy this Mobile PhoneTools software from Motorola and a USB cable to be able to download the photos directly from the RAZR V3 to my pc. I learned this from searching and reading information on the web. This information is not on Motorola's or Cingular's website, nor is it in the owner's manual that came with the phone. The MEdia bundle plan starts at an additional $10 a month while the software cd has a retail value of $30. I opted to go with the software since I only need to download the photos and I already have the necessary USB cable. I don't need access to emails or the internet at this time, or a higher phone bill. I found the software cd on eBay and got it for $13.50 including shipping. I bid and won the auction on Friday, so I still haven't received it. I will write a follow-up post after I receive it and I start to download the photos I've taken so far.
